LIttle Bits and Pieces

Focus is more on the restaurant these days, but every once in a while we get the chance to do a little bit here or there.  We now have a small garden in our master bathroom.

Almost done

Francisco started tiling the shower today. The man is amazing.

I'm glad we decided to go with the marble instead of the plain white subway tile. I like the extra warmth the color variations give.

I want a modern bath but not a sterile one.

And you can kinda see the vanity

Oh, and by the way

I poured my first actual cement. I've done "cement jobs" professionally of course, but never gotten my hands (and face and arms and legs and EVERYTHING) dirty in the process before.

Surprise!

This is what I came home to tonight:

(Isn't she cute? The kids have been playing tag through the holes in the wall all night.)

The Boyfriend got off work early and wanted to put us ahead on the shower project, so he took down half the wall.

Casualties:

Evidently, if he's not bleeding, he's not building.

Bits and pieces.

This is the weekend for the full-on bathroom demo, and last weekend we put the kitchen to rights before the dinner party. We've got a nice work station now. The bottom shelf has hooks for pans:

The top shelf I stained myself, to match the floors:

We hung another of the floor-shelves over the door between the kitchen and the laundry:

It looks to me like a very appealing place for a kitty. Luckily they have yet to figure out the counter to fridge to shelf program, but when they do...

We also tricked out the china cabinet with cup hooks. Yes, I am excited about the cup hooks:

First dinner party.

I had an epiphany this afternoon,

the fruits of which caused me to abandon my Veruca Salt-like desire of "I want it now!"

In an effort to create a livable space with what we have now (no big TV or sofa for the "man cave", no new chairs in the living room, no console by the front door or sideboard in the dining area), I give you,

Good Enough is Rarely Good Enough (except when you're remodeling a bathroom while still loving out of boxes and have eaten nothing but take-out for over a month, in which case, YES! it damn well IS good enough!):

A second bedroom is such a luxury. It means behind a door like this:

lies a mess like this:
